Dr. Kurt McDonald

Dr. Kurt McDonald PT, DPT, CSCS, CEAS, CKTP, CERT DN is a native of the Lithonia area, and has practiced in the Atlanta/South metro area for over 16 years, specializing in orthopedics and sports medicine. Kurt received both his undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science and his degree in Physical Therapy from Georgia State University. He recently graduated with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Alabama State University on May 11, 2013. He has also assisted in the interview process for incoming Physical Therapy students for the Georgia State program. He is a current member of the APTA (American Physical Therapy Association), including the Sports, Orthopedics and Private Practice sections of the organization. He is an active member of PTAG (Physical Therapy Association of Georgia), and believes in supporting and being active in professional organizations.  Kurt has recently been accepted into one of the nation’s top Orthopedic Residency programs, and is preparing to sit for his Board Certification in Orthopedics and has been practicing for over 21 years,.

Kurt is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Kinesio Tape Practitioner (CKTP).  He has completed Dry Needling 2 form the Dry Needling Institute, Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) and is also a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist (CEAS).  He lends his background of over seven years working shipping/receiving and distribution to building safe worker’s compensation programs.  Hurt has worked with and rehabilitated athletes from the MLB, MLS, NFL, AFL, NCAA and WWE. An avid athlete himself, Kurt was a local high school & collegiate soccer player.  He is currently an accomplished age group triathlete, and has completed two Half Ironman and 19 Half Marathon competitions.  His most recent endeavors include completing the Spartan Obstacle Race Series Trifecta in 2016, consisting of the sprint, super, and beast distances. He has developed training programs for multiple teams and athletes from the high school to collegiate level.

In 2007, Kurt and his wife, Tracy McDonald, DPT, opened Genesis Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation at Camp Creek Marketplace. This 2500 sq. foot facility is a state of the art, outpatient orthopedic facility serving the growing Southwest Atlanta market.  In May 2014, Genesis opened its second location on Cascade Road in the Cascade Heights building. Now in December of 2021, the third location is on its way off of South Cobb Drive in Smyrna.  

Kurt has been a member of the Ray of Hope Christian Church in Decatur, GA for over 20 years, where he served as an Usher for five years, a Deacon for the next five years, and is currently fulfilling his appointment as Elder. He is also active in the Transformers Men’s Ministry, the Couple’s Ministry, and he serves as an Ambassador for the church. Kurt believes in giving back and serving his community. 

Kurt believes in activity in his community.  He has served as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and as a Site Coordinator for Hands on Atlanta for several years, where he helps to build and maintain a safer community. Kurt also served for two years on the Board of Directors for his homeowner’s association, and he and the Genesis team are responsible for supporting several local charities and foundations, ranging from organizations that target everything from schools to “at risk” teens. Kurt was initiated into the Eta Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc in the Fall of 2018.  Since that time he has served as Co-Chair for the award winning Social Action Committee and is currently serving as the Chapters Keeper of Finance
