Dr. Erica D. Franks

Dr. Erica D. Franks PT, DPT, OCS, Cert DN, CKTP is a native of Atlanta, GA and has been practicing in the Atlanta/South Metro area since 2008. Erica earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 2008. In 2005, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science-Pre-Physical Therapy, and Minor in Dance Arts from Howard University in Washington, DC. Erica is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association/Orthopedics Section and the American Academy of Physical Therapy. She is a board-certified Orthopedics Certified Specialist (OCS). Erica joined Genesis Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation in April 2013, and is currently the Clinic Director at the Cascade location.

Erica’s clinical experience includes treatment of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine cases and Vestibular Rehabilitation at Benchmark Physical Therapy and Select Physical Therapy, home healthcare with Gentiva/Stockbridge, GA and Peachtree City, GA, and inpatient rehabilitation at Emory University Hospital Midtown/Atlanta, GA.

Erica’s clinical education has included: Certification in Dry Needling from the Dry Needling Institute, Certification in Kinesio Taping, Neural Mobility, Differential Diagnosis, Evidence Based Management of the Lumbopelvic-Spine, Orthopedic Certified Specialist Study Group, Vestibular Rehabilitation with the American Institute of Balance, Shoulder-Advanced Applications, Recent Advances of the Shoulder and Knee w/Kevin Wilk’s, and Primal Reflex Release Techniques (PRRT), Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), Kinesio Taping 1-4, Spinal Manipulation 1& 2, and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM-1) with the Spinal Manipulation Institute.

Her interests and passion include working with athletes and dancers. She has more than 20 years of extensive competitive and professional dance training, some of which include: Howard University Dance Program/Washington, DC, Alvin Ailey Summer Dance Intensive/New York, New York, Super Bowl XXXIV Performing Dance Team, Dallas Black Dance Theatre Internship/Dallas, Texas, Debbie Allen School of Dance Summer Intensive Internship/Los Angeles, California, Ballethnic Dance Academy/Atlanta, Georgia, and Price Performing Arts Center/Atlanta, Georgia. At Ballethnic, Erica performed in their featured productions Urban Nutcracker and the Leopard Tale. At Price Performing Arts Center, she was a member of their Senior Company that performed competitively local and nationally. Erica currently dances and performs with Dance 101 and Gotta Dance in Atlanta, GA. In addition to dance, in high school Erica played soccer.

In her spare time, she is devoted to mentoring students as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., East Point/College Park Alumnae Chapter. She is also a member of Epsilon Tau Sigma National Society of Allied Health, Golden Key International Honor Society Alumni Association, and Bill Gates Millennium Scholars Alumni Association. She also enjoys giving back, and has served as a clinical instructor for Emory University, Georgia State, Alabama State, Tennessee State and Howard University students.
